Try some of these tested and proven techniques to improve on your golf driving used by professional and legendary golf players like Tiger Woods, Moe Norman, Anthony Kim among others. Here’s the best tip however: use the technique you are most comfortable with and is working well with you, not because the technique made your favorite professional golfer a PGA Tour champion. This article covers the two most basic moves a golfer should master to deliver a good shot: the grip and the swing.
Golf Grip Techniques
How to properly grip a golf club is the basic step a golf player should master since a grip is the only physical contact of the player on a golf club and the golf ball. The following are the three basic types of golf grips.
Interlocking Grip
Hold the golf club with both hands and interlock your left index finger with your right little finger. This kind of grip is used by Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
Vardon Grip
Hold the golf club with both hands and rest your right little finger between the index finger and second finger of your left hand.
Baseball Grip
Hold the golf club with both hands baseball-grip like without linking the fingers.
If you are a beginner, try these three grip techniques and feel which one is most comfortable for you. Remember that it is not necessarily the kind of grip you use that largely determine how good your shot is, but how well you grip the golf club. A grip which is too strong on the left hand will result to hooking or topping a shot while a grip which is too strong on the right hand will result to slicing or blocking. Always practice to achieve a neutral grip with a balanced force from both the right and the left hand.
Golf Swing Techniques
Next to correct grip, a perfect swing is the next move to master to improve a golf game. A good swing is crucial because it also determines a straight impact and a long drive. Some of popular golf swings techniques are the following:
Modern Golf Swing
The other name for modern golf swing is lower body golf swing or a total body golf swing. Modern day pro golfers like Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim can perfectly execute this one-plane, total body golf swing technique.
Natural Swing
A method validated by brilliant swing performance of Moe Norman, the first natural golfer dubbed by his peers as “The world’s Greatest Ball Strikers”. Norman’s natural method operates on three basic principles: the natural hold or a grip similar to holding a hammer, the single plane setup and the drive using the source of leverage.
Rotary Golf Swing
Founded by Chuck Quinton, Rotary Swing, also a single-plane method is based on the laws of physics, biomechanical movements and anatomical position. Proper club positions, simple but correct body movements are significant factors to execute this technique.
Stack and Tilt
Developed by veteran golf coaches Michael Bennet and Andy Plummer, Stack and Tilt system is based on the principles of physiology and physics. To deliver a good shot using this technique the golfer has to stay more centered when they turn in their backswing and has to create a lot of leverage like a good wrist hinge.
These are but overview of the techniques. The next time you watch a game or video of professional golfers, look closely, observe how they execute a swing, and practice the moves. Whichever method is comfortable for you and has visible improvement in your drive or game then that’s the best technique for you.
